What’s cooler then a self cooling soda can? Ahhh… nothing?
I know, the self chilling (cooling) technology has been around for years, but no one has ever been able to break into the mainstream market because the cost per can was too high and the hippie fairies over at the EPA thought the waste was “bad for the environment.” But apparently there were some people that didn’t give up on the idea of a futuristic self cooling soda can.
West Coast Chill, which runs under the company name of Joseph Company International (lame name), has been working on the concept of a self cooling can for the better part of a decade and has finally cracked it! They are finally scheduled to launch their new product some time in 2012 (Summer time). The new can has the EPA’s approval and features an eco-friendly design which is activated by a reaction of a carbon ascertained from a renewable vegetable source and reclaimed CO2 from the atmosphere. A large (pop) button on the bottom of can cools your drink up to 30-degrees in about 3-5 minutes. (Sooo… buy the time you’re done drinking it.) The new cans are going to start out running for $4 per can and will first be available in the Las Vegas and Southern California markets.
According to some early reports (Yahoo), West Coast Chill should “Keep the can, lose the drink.” So I guess they might be good design of the can, and need to outsource the drink… Hopefully they get picked up by Red Bull or Coke… Or maybe… Just maybe… BEER!
