While you guys were drinking and lighting things on fire yesterday celebrating our nations independence, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut was working hard defending his hot dog eating title for the sixth year in a row.
Every year, for the last 97 years, Nathan’s Famous has hostessed the Coney Island Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest. Thousands upon thousands of spectators swarm the streets of Coney Island to watch in awe as contestants jam, a nearly deathly amount hot dog (with their buns) down their throats. But contrary to logic, the biggest fattest guy almost never wins…
For the last 6 years the title of hot dog eating champ has held by 6 feet tall and a muscly 210 pounds, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut. This year Chestnet was able to consume, and tie his own world record by downing 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes. With this victory, Chestnut has been undefeated for the last 6 years of this classic eating competition.
Now… I don’t know about you, but 68 hot dogs sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen. I mean Hot dogs, aren’t the healthiest of foods to begin with, yet to cram that many of them into your system. In addition to all the beef in dogs, they also include crazy amount of sodium (salt) and various food additives. This year, with Chestnut’s total dog count he was equal to more than 20,000 calories…
So how many hot dogs did you eat this Fourth of July?
