We all remember Phelps’ 8 Gold Medals in the last Olympics in the ’08 Beijing Games. However, the all-star athlete is on his way to another impressive medal count.
As it stands, Phelps has a total of 14 medals which is more than any other Olympian this year. Now he has a change to break the record, held by Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, of 18 medals.
Although they will not all be gold, which would be a whole new record on its own, he will still have a healthy shot at achieving the most medals ever won by one Olympian.
