I have said to many people, many, times over, that every person should 1) either work in the service industry or 2) Watch the movie “Waiting” and understand that really is how it goes.
I myself worked in bars for 6+ years and gained an appreciation for industry workers and their plight. In the movie–Monty– one of the servers says the line,
And while i’m not saying there are not times to question how things were cooked, or send something back. Just don’t be a Dick or condescending about it. THEY WILL DO SOMETHING TO MESS WITH YOU. Maybe we should go back to original meaning of “TIP” (To Insure Promptness)… because I bet, that if the non tippers had to tip prior to the meal, they would understand good service vs bad service. I wonder what people would do if their bosses came to them, with a project that they put their all in and then, as an after thought, the boss says, “Oh by the way, you will not be paid for this great job.” Something tells me that would not go over well… But that is what your doing doing when you don’t tip your Server, Bartender, etc. And that Cool Dudes and Dudettes, is what “Really Grinds my Gears”. (oh and by the way 18% is now standard–20% at a bar, not 15% anymore)
Wait?!?!?! what that you say, you can’t afford the tip sometimes??
I would implore you to read some things at this site… Cant afford to tip.
